Contractor & Developer Academy
The Development Action Group (DAG) incubated the Contractor & Developer Academy (CDA) in 2017 as a direct response of working with communities and emerging contractors. In 2015, DAG successfully completed a 3-year construction project of 2173 Enhanced People’s Housing Project (EPHP) in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. The incubation of CDA was in direct capacity building needs from lived experiences of the Khayelitsha People’s Housing Process (PHP) project.
Overview
The CDA Programme
The Contractor & Developer Academy (CDA) is an enterprise development programme that seeks to improve and enhance the capability of emerging contractors and developers. Whilst incubated within DAG, CDA works with key sector stakeholders within the built environment- construction, development industry, academia, professionals etc. to co-create and test new innovative forms of affordable housing delivery.
The CDA’s impact in the urban sector over the years can be attributed to DAG’s role in supporting emerging developers to implement 16 affordable housing projects which yielded 99 residential units for 250 people. R12.5 million was contributed to the local economy, from which an estimate of 529 individuals benefited directly and indirectly.
